The Heritage Fleet

The Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust looks after the Hunter's Yard fleet.

12 classic mahogany cabin yachts built from the 1930s in the Hunter’s Yard – where they still sail from today.

8 classic half-deckers dating back to 1927.

The heritage fleet is on the Historic Ships Register. At one time (since the late 1800s) the Norfolk Broads was busy with holiday makers hiring sailing yachts built specifically for navigating over 200km of Broads water ways. Today, the Hunter’s Yard fleet is the sole surviving fleet of yachts that is still together and operating from its original base where most of them were built.

The fleet is used by holiday makers and also by the Trust to deliver its youth sailing programme.

The Trust believes that it has a special responsibility to maintain these historic yachts and the yard they were built in for the benefit of existing and future generations.

It also has a responsibility to maintain the heritage skills needed to maintain the fleet.
